St. Patrick's Day Parade in Denver

For St. Patrick's Day we joined forces with the Mile High Fife and Drum Corps to portray the 69th New York Infantry, also know as the Irish Brigade. It is a very rare sight to see us in Yankee uniforms (which we borrowed for the event), but we did it for the sake of the Irish immigrants who fought. As the song Paddy's Lamentation says,

Well meself and a hundred more, to America sailed o'er
Our fortunes to be making we were thinkin'
But when we got to Yankee land, they put rifles into our hands
Saying "Paddy, you must go and fight for Lincoln"

So, listen up you boys, do take my advice;
To America I'll have you not be goin'
For there's nothing here but war,
Where the murd'ring cannons roar,
And I wish I were at home in dear old Erin.

Before the parade and before we got our green boxwood twigs to put in our hats.

There were about 250,000 people at the parade,
all with the same shade of green on.

And yes, that is a Star Wars storm trooper with a kilt.

The WPFDC at Liberty Day 2012

Last weekend (March 10th) we performed at Liberty Day held in Wheaton, IL in honor of Patrick Henry's "give me liberty, or give me death!" speech. It involved music, speeches, reenactments, dancing, and more. We performed in the lobby before it started, then on the stage as people came in. We also played at the end, marching to the building the dancing was being held at. The weather was great and marching outside in the evening was beautiful. During our time there we also were able to play some American/Celtic folk music with some friends of ours. Here is a taste of our performance there:

"Liberty Day was established by several families in northern Illinois with the purpose of stirring the hearts of Christians to consider the many facets of liberty; and to remember the principles, vision, faith, and sacrifices of those who have gone before and given us the unique country that we enjoy today. We are their posterity and must be careful not to waste their extreme efforts and must beseech heaven, and do our part, to preserve the legacy for our posterity. May God grant us the heart to do it, Amen!"

Lincoln Day Dinner

Last Saturday evening we played for the Elbert County Lincoln Day Dinner, and did it in our completed uniforms! Here is a video of us at the event:

Among other things, a man recognized us from a picture his sister (who used to play in Williamsburg Fife and Drum) took of us in Deep River, Connecticut!
